In what was a blockbuster first-round match between two players fighting to return to form, Nick Kyrgios lost a tight three-setter to Stan Wawrinka at the Rogers Cup.

Kyrgios failed to deliver in the big moments in the 1-6, 7-5, 7-5 loss—partially due to his hip injury and partially due to a wild shot selection. But, as always, he still managed to dazzle the crowd.

The greatest bit of magic from the Aussie's racquet came in the first set, when he took all the shape out of his shot to slap a crosscourt forehand 115 mph. That's faster than a lot of serves.

He won the first set quickly, ending it on one of his 26 aces for the match.

In the second set, Wawrinka would score a critical break at 6-5 on a backhand return pass the dipped to quickly for Kyrgios.

Then, early in the third set, Kyrgios fought back with a forehand off of a cartoon-like jump. That one was a whopping 113 mph.

He couldn't come through in the business end of the deciding set, handing Wawrinka the win after a botched serve-and-volley attempt.
