With a couple dozen Romanian fans in the crowd at San Jose, waving the nation's flag, Mihaela Buzarnescu ruthlessly won the Silicon Valley Classic title against Maria Sakkari, 6-1, 6-0.
At 30 years old, this is her first WTA singles crown, and will shoot her into the Top 20 for the first time in her career. She also won her first WTA doubles title at Strasbourg this year.
Third time was the charm for the Romanian, previously reaching the finals at both Hobart and Prague this year. Buzarnescu is, of course, beyond excited, but she will have little time to celebrate as she will be heading straight to the Rogers Cup, preparing to face Wang Qiang in the first round.
