Serena Williams, she of the GOAT status and with a shiny new Wimbledon runner-up finish under her belt, recently interviewed her famous friend, model Gigi Hadid, for V magazine's "Fearless" issue.

And the results – yea, the commonalities – were fairly surprising. Gigi and her younger sister Bella Hadid both reign in the runway world, while Serena and Venus Williams slap winners all over tennis courts worldwide.

"It’s very rare to have what Bella and I have in fashion, what you and Venus have in tennis," Gigi tells Serena in their cover-story Q&A, conducted outside of the mag's usual editorial processes. Gigi reportedlytexted the conversation to V's editor-in-chief Stephen Gan.

"I feel very lucky to be able to have a piece of home in my work environment. We are each other’s biggest fans. It has been a huge joy of my life to watch my little sister flourish, and to help when I can!"

Serena, younger sister in her sporty set, and Hadid, the elder by two years, found kindred spirits in each other about six years back. Often friendly at red-carpet events and more bashes, they've also witnessed each other in action.

Says Hadid in their smart, staccato exchange, "I love seeing you win. I think every woman feels like they win when they watch you play, or at least that’s how I feel. One of the best nights we’ve ever had was out in NYC after you won the US Open one year, if I remember correctly." She adds, with a laugh, "I won’t go into too much detail!"

Gigi Hadid, herself a "hardcore" high-school athlete in volleyball and more, has high praise for her tennis ball–punishing pal.

"Serena, obviously she’s an athlete on an otherworldly planet than me, but she gets my mindset in certain situations, and I think that we connect in that way," Hadid tells the Los Angeles Times. "Until we had that conversation, I had never really, like, thought about how similar it is that Bella and I do what we do, and her and Venus. It’s rare for sisters to be competitive – not with each other, but [in] competitive parts of an industry."

Three versions of Hadid's V magazine cover are available online and at newsstands now. Featured poses include her riding a custom Fendi Sea-Doo and swimming with fish in a Chanel bathing suit. You know, things people do.
