It was another big night in a year full of firsts for Sloane Stephens. On Wednesday, she took home her first ESPY award in Los Angeles, winning for Best Female Tennis Player.

The world No. 3 beat out fellow nominees Caroline Wozniacki, Garbine Muguruza and Simona Halep. She was also nominated for the Best Breakthrough Athlete award which Donovan Mitchell won. Serena Williams wasn't in the nominations as she missed most of the last year.

Stephens has enjoyed a career-best last 12 months, winning her first Grand Slam title at the US Open last August. After an eight-match slump, the 25-year-old won the Miami Open and made a run to the French Open final.

Stephens' compatriot CoCo Vandeweghe also hit the red carpet for the star-studded event. Stephens brought her younger brother Shawn as her plus one.

Stephens will be playing several exhibition and World Team Tennis matches in the coming weeks before competing at the Citi Open in Washington, D.C.

Though he didn't attend the ESPYs, Roger Federer won awards for Best Male Tennis Player and Best Record-Breaking Performance.
