The Breakers is the most majestic mansion in Newport, serving as a symbol of the Vanderbilt family's great financial and social success.

"If you go to France you have to go to Versailles. If you come to the East Coast of the United States, you have to come to The Breakers," says Trudy Coxe, the executive director of the Preservation Society of Newport County.
