Mischa Zverev may have though his chances of winning an ATP title were running out after losing in two previous finals, Geneva in 2017 and Metz in 2010. After defeating Lukas Lacko in Eastbourne on Sunday, 6-4, 6-4, Zverev finally held a trophy above his head.

The German's history on tour has been controlled chaos, being outside of the Top 1,000 only a few years ago in 2015. Slowly improving his ranking, he broke into the Top 100 in October 2016.

Zverev has been waiting for this moment for a long time, and couldn't be happier:

The season seems to be the lucky year for many players, as Zverev is the eighth player this season to win his first ATP title. Frances Tiafoe won the crown Delray Beach, Daniil Medvedev won Sydney and Marco Cecchinato conquered Budapest.

Zverev will take his momentum into Wimbledon where he will face Pierre-Hughes Herbert in the first round. A potential third round meeting with Rafael Nadal awaits him—if all goes well.
