After heartbreak in three previous major finals, Halep summoned up her best tennis and all the mental strength she has developed over the last year to finally overcome her biggest hurdle. She fought back from a set down, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Another player supremely loved and respected on tour, Petra Kvitova, congratulated Halep on joining the Grand Slam club.
