Maria Sharapova couldn't have looked happier about her demolition of Karolina Pliskova on Saturday at the French Open. The Russian lost just three games in a 6-2, 6-1 win that lasted less than an hour.

"I think I was happy and smiling," Sharapova said. "I guess these are the types of occasions where you want to play really good, solid tennis against a Top-10 player that's been playing extremely well. When you're able to deliver that on a Grand Slam stage, I think it makes it extra special."

Sharapova has found her footing on clay, a surface she's thrived on in the later stages of her career. The two-time French Open champion is into the second week in Paris for the 12th time. She will face Serena Williams next, who beat Julia Goerges in her third round match.

"I think any time you play against Serena you know what you're up against," Sharapova said. "You know the challenge that is upon you. You know, despite the record that I have against her, I always look forward to coming out on the court and competing against the best player. I will look forward to doing that if she wins this one."

Even though both Sharapova and Williams are on comebacks to the top, this will likely be Sharapova's best chance at ending a staggering 18-match losing streak to the American. She's got far more matches under her belt going into the French Open, while Williams is playing in just her third event since winning the 2017 Australian Open.

Still, the last time Sharapova got a win over Williams was 14 long years ago.
