Serena Williams has responded to comments made by Madrid owner Ion Tiriac. The 78-year-old was discussing the state of women's tennis in Sport Bid, a German publication.

“With all due respect, 36 years old and 90 kilograms [198 pounds]," Tiriac said about Williams.

“I always say people are entitled to their opinion,” Williams told the *New York Times'* Christopher Clarey. “Clearly there’s more to women’s tennis than me. There’s a lot more, but I’ll have words with him, believe me, I’ll have words with him. It’s an ignorant comment, and it’s a sexist comment, and maybe he’s an ignorant man.”

Williams will actually skip Madrid and begin her clay-court season in Rome, a city she's said is her favorite. Rome also happens to be where she met her husband Alexis Ohanian, and where he proposed.

While taking more time to train may be the right move, it's disappointing she may not have her talk with Tiriac—at least not right now.

Williams returned to the tour in Indian Wells after the birth of her daughter in September. She's gone 2-2 since then and is ranked No. 449 but will get to use her protected ranking of No. 1 in the weeks ahead. Roland Garros will be her first Grand Slam since winning her 23rd at the Australian Open last year.
