On Sunday, Karolina Pliskova secured her 10th WTA title— her first of the year—by defeating Coco Vandeweghe, 7-6, 6-4 in Stuttgart. The world No. 6 fired 11 aces behind her powerful groundstrokes to overwhelm the American.

There was some drama at the beginning of the second set when Vandeweghe took a medical timeout after falling and injuring her hand. This was Vandeweghe's first career clay-court final and she was left in tears after losing.

Pliskova has been on a final-winning streak up until Sunday. Stuttgart was her fourth consecutive final victory since losing in the 2016 US Open final against Angelique Kerber.

Vandeweghe had only won one WTA match in 2018 going into her great week in Stuttgart.
