Keys win made it 3-1 for the U.S. before a dead doubles rubber was played. CoCo Vandweghe and Bethanie Mattek-Sands would fall in a deciding tiebreaker to Amandine Hesse and Mladenovic.

The U.S. team will play the Czech Republic in November for a shot at their second straight Fed Cup crown.
