Top seeds in great moods as Charleston gets underway

Charmed by the southern hospitality of Charleston, the top seeds at the Volvo Car Open look ahead to the first clay court event of the season. During All-Access hour, the top eight seeds were relaxed talking to journalists at the tournament.

Top seed Caroline Garcia explained her mindset going into the clay court season, the most important part of the year for her as a French player.

The 2016 Roland Garros doubles champion, and a former doubles winner in Charleston as well, discussed the hospitality and charm of the low country with South Carolina native Shelby Rogers.

Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova explained her iffy relationship with clay, despite having won two titles in Madrid.

Another player not quite in love with the clay, Madison Keys said she’s just trying to find the right balance on the dirt with her explosive power game.

The American has enjoyed success in Charleston in the past, reaching the final in 2015.

There was time for some fun as well as defending champion Daria Kasatkina sampled some Southern favorites with new Tennis Channel host Rogers.

Kasatkina began her title defence with a hard-fought three-set win over Christina McHale on Tuesday while the rest of the top seeds begin their Charleston campaigns on Wednesday.
