WATCH: Osaka gives her first-ever winner's speech

Before Sunday, Naomi Osaka had never given a tournament-victory speech—not on the WTA Tour, not on the ITF Pro Circuit, not on the junior circuit, not even in doubles.

On Sunday in Indian Wells, she won one of the biggest titles on tour, defeating Daria Kasatkina 6-3, 6-2 to win the BNP Paribas Open and its Baccarat Crystal trophy.

But, in accepting the trophy (and the $1.3 million that came with it), she had to give a speech.

"Hi, I'm Nao–OK, never mind," she began, cutting herself off when she realized the 16,000-seat stadium that had just watched her play for an hour already knew her name.

Take 2: "I would like to thank the tournament director, and then the WTA and the staff and the physios--oh, whoops, sorry, I would like to thank Dasha," she said, gesturing to her giggling opponent, normally the first person the winner would address.

Take 3: "I would like to thank Dasha for being super nice and also being a really cool person to play against. I'm pretty sure we're gonna play a lot of finals and stuff later.

"I would also like to thank Dasha's team, because they're super nice, too. Congrats, I mean, yeah, congrats," she told the losing team.

"I would like to thank my team," Osaka added, "for putting up with me and, yeah, that's basically it—and also supporting me."

"I would also really like to thank Sascha. Hey," she said, waving to her coach.

"Oh, and the ball kids and the umpires," she tacked on at the last minute. "The ball kids are super awesome.

"This is probably gonna be, like, the worst acceptance speech of all time," she said, incorrectly.

The Premier Mandatory win bumps Osaka's ranking up from No. 44 to No. 22. But it was too late for her to get seeded for Miami this week, where she drew Serena Williams in the first round.

But don't feel bad for the 20-year-old. After beating Maria Sharapova in her first round in Indian Wells, Osaka said Sharapova, Serena and Venus Williams were the three players she wanted to play.

“I ticked two people off so now I’m just waiting to play Serena."
