In a year in which the New York City Pride Parade will reverse course, a mainstay of the women's, gay and human rights movements will be among its grand marshals. Indeed, Billie Jean King will join the fun and the fray on June 24 alongside some organizationally and individually recognized peers.

Coming alongside King as the 2018 NYC Pride grand marshals are writer Tyler Ford; Kenita Placide, the Executive Director of the Eastern Caribbean Alliance for Diversity and Equality; and the Lambda Legal organization.

"This year’s selection of grand marshals bring forth the very essence of what it means to be 'Defiantly Different' in social and political unrest,” said Julian Sanjivan, NYC Pride March Director. "King, Lambda Legal, Ford and Placide are defiantly brave, defiantly unique and defiantly a share of our wondrous LGBTQ+ community."

At least one media report appeared to visually confuse King for Margaret Court in its publishing of the news. King has received much attention for addressing Court, actually, over her rival's religion-centric perspective on same-sex marriage and LGBTQ people in general.
