Ahead of Indian Wells, young Americans Taylor Fritz, Stefan Kozlov and Reilly Opelka stopped by the Living Desert Zoo to see meerkats, goats, a cheetah and more. The trio were all playing in the inaugural Indian Wells Challenger.

"It was a fun day," Fritz said. "We all just got to squad up and go to the zoo."

"The goats were fire," said Kozlov, whom Fritz dubbed "the goat whisperer."

Opelka, who's 20 years old and 6 feet 11, was disappointed that he didn't see any giraffes.  "It would have been nice to meet some of my own kind," he said.

Fritz was initially the first man to clinch an Indian Wells wildcard via the Oracle Challenger Series--based on his results in Newport Beach and Indian Wells—but, with the recent withdrawals, he'll move into the main draw directly.

That opened up wildcard spot for Opelka, who made the semifinals in Newport Beach. Finalist Bradley Klahn was also awarded a place in the main draw.

The women's wildcard winners are two-time NCAA singles champion Danielle Collins and 16-year-old junior US Open winner Amanda Anisimova.
