Pity the collar-popping, bearded Benoit Paire. Sometimes you just can't win.

Already broken by Borna Coric to open their round-of-16 match in Dubai, Paire faced a 40-0 deficit in the subsequent game. Whiffing in his serve-return attempt, he not only went down 2-0 early in the match but also snapped his racquet handle in half.

It was all so Agnieszka Radwanska. At the 2011 Australian Open, Radwanska's racquet handle likewise broke – actually, it completely snapped off the rest of the frame – as she returned serve against Kimiko Date at a pivotal point late in their three-set showdown.

Paire, often prone to high and low swings in his disposition on court, for once broke a racquet by accident. He went on to drop the match to Coric as well, that by a 6-1, 6-4 count. And herein lies every tennis player's understanding: There's always next week.
