It was a milestone weekend in many regards for Venus and Serena Williams. The 37-year-old Venus helped lift the U.S. to a 3-1 Fed Cup win over The Netherlands while playing her 1,000th career match.

Venus won her first singles match in straight sets over Aranxta Rus to mark 1,000 and then won her match the next day over Richel Hogenkamp to seal the semifinal berth for Team USA.

That Sunday afternoon, Venus fell short in the dead rubber doubles with Serena, but the day marked Serena’s return to competitive tennis.

The 23-time Grand Slam winner congratulated Venus on the 1,000 match milestone, something even Serena has yet to achieve in her illustrious career. Serena got a little ahead of herself though. To be clear, Venus now has a 777-224 career record, so 1,000 wins is still on the horizon.

Of active players, Venus ranks fifth on tour for most matches played, while she is second behind Serena for most matches won.

While the sisters were the stars of the show on court in Asheville, N.C., it was Alexis Olympia Jr. who really stole the attention.
