It took her 43 attempts and over 12 years but Caroline Wozniacki has finally won her first Grand Slam title. She defeated Simona Halep, who was also playing for her first Slam, 7-6 (2), 3-6, 6-4.

Wozniacki will also become the new world No. 1, a position she knows well after holding it for 67 weeks from 2010-2012.

On top of all that, she is also the first Dane to win a Grand Slam singles title. She has twice been a runner-up at the US Open and just 17 months ago was ranked No. 74 in the world. Not to mention she saved two match points in her second round in Melbourne.
