One final’s done; another is slated for today as the Australian Open winds down.

2014 Wimbledon finalists Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic had successful stretches with other partners the past few years: Babos teamed up with Andrea Hlavackova to win the WTA Finals in 2017, and in 2016 Mladenovic captured her home Slam with countrywoman Caroline Garcia.

When the two ended up reuniting at this year’s Australian Open, they defied expectations and notions of any rust by capturing the first Grand Slam of the season.

The duo defeated the number-two seeds Elena Vesnina and Ekaterina Makarova in straight sets. The Russians were trying to complete the career Grand Slam, but fell in the championship match for the second time in four years.

It’s Babos’ first major title and she has an opportunity at another when she and Rohan Bopanna take on Gabriela Dabrowski and Mate Pavic for the mixed crown.

Here’s a look at today’s big match, the men’s doubles final:

(7) Oliver Marach/Mate Pavic vs. (11) Juan Sebastian Cabal/Mate Pavic:

It’s been said throughout the fortnight whenever Marach and Pavic are mentioned here, but it bears repeating once again: They have not lost a match yet this year. They’re going for their third title of the month against Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah, aka “Colombian Power.” Both teams are trying to win their first Grand Slam.

For Cabal and Farah, it’s their first major final together, while Marach and Pavic played for the championship at Wimbledon last year. Will that experience be what separates the two teams? The Colombians dealt the Bryan brothers their first defeat in an Australian Open semifinal, and will be coming in confident.

It hasn’t been easy in Melbourne for Pavic and Marach, who have played four three-setters in a row, including back-to-back third-set tiebreaks. They’ve been fighting through the tough stretches to emerge victorious at the end: It will be intriguing to see if they can tap into the well again, or will the fresher legs of Cabal and Farah pull them through at the end.
