Simona Halep and Angelique Kerber played an epic semifinal match on Thursday, but it was the Romanian who came out victorious, 6-3, 4-6, 9-7.

This is the world No. 1's first trip to the Australian Open final and the two-time French Open finalist will be playing for her first major title.

She will have a tough time against two-time US Open finalist Caroline Wozniacki, who is also going for her first major title. Oh, and the No. 1 ranking is on the line.

Both finalists have faced the brink of an exit this fortnight. Wozniacki saved two match points in her second round, while Halep managed to fight off two match points against Kerber (and three in her third round).
