Each day of the Australian Open, Baseline will feature an AO Player of the Day that may not be the most famous face or headline-stirring upset, but someone who earned special recognition.

Day 6's blockbuster marathon between Lauren Davis and Simona Halep tied the Australian Open's record for the longest in terms of games. The 4-6, 6-4, 15-13 epic would go in the way of top seed Halep, but not without Davis earning triple match point.

The American kept the pressure on—no matter the score—overcoming a toenail injury that was treated twice. The third set was longer than the first two combined, testing both players physically and mentally.

"I think today she played the highest level in tennis, and her backhand was just too good sometimes," Halep said about Davis. "She was moving very fast. She was moving well. I knew that. She improved a lot, and I can say that she's a great athlete and also player. She stayed there mentally strong, so many, many congrats to her."

Davis said she would take only positives from her experience Down Under.
