The story of strife and friction between Sharapova and Serena is well documented, needing no reintroduction in this space and time. The superstars' erstwhile rivalry has been a bust for nearly a decade and a half, with Serena leading 19-2 and winning every match since dropping two in 2004. (You know, during the George W. Bush administration.)
But that emoji, that singular emoji, that was so Serena. Even when she says next to nothing at all, she says so much.
Sharapova would ultimately drop the third-round encounter to Kerber, 6-1, 6-3.
