If there’s one thing Australia is known for besides soaring temperatures, beautiful beaches and natural landmarks, it’s the rare and unique wildlife. While the kangaroo, koala and wombat may all be staples of wildlife in the Outback, one creature many players have gotten to know quite well this week has been the quokka.

They're a furry and adorable animal found at Perth’s Rottnest Island, and they're perfect for selfies. Roger Federer started the trend. He and partner Belinda Bencic found good luck with the quokkas as they won the Hopman Cup over Germany.

Bencic had to emulate her 19-time Grand Slam champion-winning partner:

Other Hopman Cup stars joined the fun, including Karen Khachanov:

And Daria Gavrilova, who's efforts with Thanasi Kokkinakis were stopped one match short of the final by Germany:

Federer truly couldn't get enough:

While Australian wildlife is quite unique, the quokka has taken on a life of its own this season:

And it's likely all thanks to Federer, kicking off a viral selfie trend at the ripe age of 37.
