When in Australia, visitors must do two things: hold a local wild animal and hit the waves. Americans Madison Brengle Christina McCale and Lauren Davis have accomplished the latter.

In town for the Auckland Open, they decided to take a break from tennis to try something new. For McCale, it was a goal finally coming to fruition.

"I've always wanted to try it for awhile now so I'm so excited to do it, especially here in Auckland," she said. "It's absolutely beautiful so I'm excited."

Davis and Brengle both had paddleboarded before, with Davis actually being quite the veteran.

"It was pretty gusty so it makes for a really good workout," Davis said. "I got tired after 15 minutes, but it was so much fun. I just love being out on the water. Being able to paddleboard in Auckland, who can say that?"

All three women were knocked out of the Auckland Open in the first round. Davis, the defending champion, lost to Sachia Vickery, 6-1 6-2, McCale to Taylor Townsend, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, and Brengle fell to Caroline Wozniacki, 6-3, 6-0.
