Scott Sears is said to have accomplished a truly remarkable and rare feat – trekking to the South Pole solo.

Sears, the younger brother of Kim Sears, Andy Murray's wife, seems to have minted his place as the youngest person ever to do so "completely alone, unassisted and unsupported." The Guinness Book of World Records has yet to confirm if Sears will end up in the record books.

The 1,100-kilometer (683-plus–mile) walk was certainly exhausting–even for an ultra-fit, 27-year-old serviceperson–and took place over five weeks in subzero temperatures. Sears faced winds up to 150 miles per hour but weathered the situation via custom goggles to keep him from going snow-blind whilst carrying 90 pounds of gear and supplies.

Sears undertook the expedition as a charity fundraiser; he is a lieutenant in the First Battalion Royal Gurkha Rifles and wished to accrue 35,000 British pounds (US $47,000) in donations for the Gurkha Welfare Trust, a nonprofit organization that assists RGF veteran and their families and communities with medical, financial and more forms of aid.

For his noble efforts, Sears even earned a similarly solitary Twitter Moment out of it, even if that facet of the outcome may not have come about entirely as desired.

Lost in this singularly triumphant story: the facts that Jamie Murray abides as the oft-referred "brother of Andy Murray," and that Kim Sears herself is so often labeled away as "Andy Murray's wife," including early in this article. And so it goes.
