Three stars land in SI's Top 100 photos of 2017

It's said to be that most wonderful time of the year, and for many, that means end-of-year lists aplenty. Among flurries of basketball, baseball and American football images, three tennis shots stand out in SportsIllustrated's roundup of its own best 100 photos of 2017.

Wimbledon winner Roger Federer and US Open champions Sloane Stephens and Rafael Nadal get their space to shine once again, appearing in a trio of visuals depicting their effort and triumph.

Federer and Stephens, in different photos, appeared on the cover of SI this year as well, bookending the US Open in late-August and mid-September weeks.

The obvious LeBron James, Masters champ Sergio Garcia, sprinters Usain Bolt and Justin Gatlin, ballyhooed boxers Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather, and various World Series–winning Houston Astros loom large on this roster. Women in sports may seem a bit underrepresented in general here, though some choice photos of WNBA and women's college basketball players are also peppered into the mix.
