Thiem plays football during the offseason

Dominic Thiem is putting a special twist on his offseason training for 2018. To break up the routine of tennis courts and gyms, the 23-year-old journeyed to Slovenia to play football (or as it's known in the U.S., soccer).

The world No. 5 is actually part of a club called 1. TFC that started out in 2016. The team name stands for First Tennis & Football Club.

"It’s exactly these things that are making the mind fresh again,” Thiem said. “To play another beautiful sport—it’s prefect to recharge the batteries.”
