Upon hearing about the coaching award, Tennis Channel commentator Paul Annacone, who coached Federer from 2010 to 2013, called Luthi "the polish on the jewel known as RF for quite some time."

Martina Hingis, who won one doubles and two mixed doubles Grand Slams this year before retiring, was nominated for Sportswoman of the Year. She placed fourth, with Alpine skier Wendy Holdener winning the award.
