Can anyone have expected Caroline Garcia to book a spot at the WTA Finals in Singapore? The 24-year-old tapped into all of her potential just in time with titles in Wuhan and Beijing. The fall winning streak catapulted her inside the Top 10 for the first time, and booked her lofty spot as the No. 1 Frenchwoman.

Moment of the Year

Garcia's win in Wuhan was impressive, but in Beijing she needed to upset a ton of highly ranked opponents to finish with the trophy. She took out Elina Svitolina, Petra Kvitova and new world No. 1 Simona Halep in succession for the biggest crown of her young career.

Hot Shot of the Year

The Frenchwoman's backhand is underrated. She used it to perfection during her impeccable fall, which also saw her reach the WTA Finals semifinals. Against Svitolina in Beijing, her backhand really found its mark:

Outlook for 2018

Garcia will need to get used to dealing with loftier expectations, and defending points (but luckily that won't be a big problem until late in 2018). She'll also need to focus on staying healthy, and that requires mastering her schedule. If she can do that, more titles are on the way, and it's about time she appeared in a Grand Slam semifinal.
