The inaugural edition of the Laver Cup, featuring a squad of European stars taking on a team of players from around the world, was held in September.

Going into the event, one notion was on the global community’s mind: whether Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer would play doubles together for Team Europe.

The two rivals, arguably the greatest men’s players of all time, did join forces, much to the delight of fans around the world.

Taking on Americans Jack Sock and Sam Querrey, Federer and Nadal won the first set 6-4. Behind some big hitting and serving of their own, Querrey and Sock leveled the match by taking the second 6-1. In the deciding match tiebreak, Federer and Nadal captured it 10-5, extending Team Europe’s overall lead.

The blue team, led by captain Bjorn Borg, defeated John McEnroe’s red squad 15-9 in an event that was considered an overall success.

And the match that Federer and Nadal fans eagerly anticipated lived up to its billing, too.
