Once they captured their first title of the year in Indian Wells, Martina Hingis and Yung-Jan Chan only knew one direction from that point on: upward.

The new team experienced a season for the ages—and developed a friendship to match.

On the court, the two won nine titles together over the season. No surface or playing conditions could hold them back as they won on multiple titles on hard, clay and grass courts.

At the Grand Slam level, they won the US Open for their first title together at one of the sport’s biggest tournaments.

Sadly, it will be their last major title together.

Hingis announced her retirement at the WTA Finals, going out on top as the co-No. 1-ranked doubles player in the world, along with Chan.

The two have spent time in each other’s respective countries since the end of the season.

While their on-court adventures are coming to an end, their off-court friendship is only blossoming.
