As reported last week, a 61-percent majority decision among Australian postal-survey respondents moved toward legalizing same-sex marriage in Australia. From Nick Kyrgios to Billie Jean King, Casey Dellacqua to Kim Clijsters, stars of yesterday and today posted their excitement over the Aussie public's decision.

Standing squarely in the face of that: Margaret Court, 24-time major singles titles winner and a Pentecostal pastor. Since the vote, Court has threatened to leave Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's Liberal Party – a substantial threat, given that her husband, Barry Court, is that party's former president.

"They're not allowing you [conservatives] to speak," she said post-vote. "I don't think I want to be with either party."

Enter Martina Navratilova, an "out" lesbian since the 1980s, a vocal civil-rights advocate and a similarly decorated tennis icon.

A master of verbal volleys, Navratilova was responding to statements that Court made earlier this year, when she said, "They [gays and lesbians] want marriage because they want to destroy it. There will be no Mother’s Day, there will be no Father’s Day, there will be no Easter, there will be no Christmas." It was a dramatic statement befitting one given to sermonizing.

Here is a reusable saying: Navratilova does Twitter-trolling of the highest order. While Court herself has been silent on that particular platform since the vote, it's unlikely that she will remain quiet on the matter over the next two months ahead of the 2018 Australian Open.
