The top eight players in the WTA arrived in Singapore for festive preliminaries, and one of the coolest perks of all was for Simona Halep. The world No. 1 was awarded a shiny, red 911 Carrera GTS for driving to the top of the rankings by the commencement of the year-end event.

Halep has been a resilient story all year, falling short of the top ranking several times since losing the French Open final to fellow Singapore qualifier Jelena Ostapenko. She kept on course with consistent results in most of the big tournaments and won the Madrid Premier Mandatory.

A few contest winners got to meet Halep and collect her autograph.

The Romanian star will steer her talents to compete against Elina Svitolina, Caroline Garcia and Caroline Garcia in round-robin action for the red group, beginning on Monday. But it’s nice for her to acquire another key on the road of her successful career.
