Petra Kvitova came into the WTA International event in Tianjin as the No. 2 seed with some chance remaining of making the WTA Elite Trophy in Zhuhai. Instead, she lost her opener to Lin Zhu, wrapping up her 2017 comeback season.

But it's all good. The Czech has embraced every moment of her year, even the final stop in China.

After a home burglary left her with a badly injured left hand in December, Kvitova was just thrilled to be back on court in June for the French Open. She won Birmingham in just her second tournament back and enjoyed a run to the US Open quarterfinals. Kvitova also appeared in the Beijing semifinals.

Kvitova rose to No. 17 in the rankings, but missed out on a spot in the WTA Elite Trophy, despite being the defending champion.
