Sam Groth has been sharing his tour experiences all year long, but this may be the most unexpected dispatch. He's in Fairfield, Calif. (a sub-region in the San Francisco Bay area) for a $100,000 ATP Challenger and forest fires have wreaked havoc on the schedule. As smoke builds up in the surrounding area, matches have been cancelled and masks have been given out.

The event is being hosted by the Solano Community College, which is also an evacuation center for the area. If the air quality conditions don't improve on Thursday, the tournament will likely be moved to the University of California, Davis campus.

Groth lost his singles opener but is in the doubles draw (with Bjorn Fratangelo). A voluntary evacuation has been ordered for Fairfield.
