Every week Baseline will select a “Player of the Week.” That athlete may not always win the highest category tournament that week, but perform the best compared to their recent playing history.

Things had been going very well for David Goffin in 2017 going into the final stretch of season, but there was one thing missing, a title. He had reached at least the quarterfinals of two ATP Masters events and the Australian Open, and reached the finals of Rotterdam and Sofia. But he hadn't lifted a championship trophy since 2014.

That changed in Shenzhen, where he beat Alexandr Dolgopolov in three sets, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-3, ending a six-final losing streak and a three-year title drought.

Then in Tokyo, he captured his second title in as many weeks, defeating Adrian Mannarino in the Japan Open final.

Last year, he lost in the Tokyo final to Nick Kyrgios, but he was prepared to go one farther in 2017, winning 6-3, 7-5.

Goffin is currently ranked No. 10 in the world and is getting closer to a solidified spot in London. Hopefully he can keep up his nine-match winning streak heading into Shanghai.
