Jean-Julien Rojer and his partner Horia Tecau won the men's doubles title at this US Open, their second major championship together after taking the 2015 Wimbledon crown. What happened next saw Rojer seize on a wonderful moment to sow unity in a sea of doubt in the United States, where he has lived for two-thirds of his life:

"I've been here since I'm 12 years old," Rojer told presenter Tom Rinaldi. "It's a great country, and I'm happy that they let me in and that I get to do my job here. So hopefully we will create those opportunities for everybody."

His address, less than a minute in its duration, carried the weight of the world on its back. In the wake of recent discord about Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy, its optimism was particularly striking.

Not all trophy ceremonies are created equal, and not all champions get equal billing. This was a doubles stalwart receiving his due time and beautifully seizing on it.
