It’s quarterfinal day for the men’s doubles teams at the US Open, and already Henri Kontinen and John Peers, the top seeds, are through to the semifinals with a win over John-Patrick Smith and Nicholas Monroe.

The remaining mixed doubles quarterfinal matches are also on the docket as three remaining teams try to reach the semis and join Michael Venus and Hao-Ching Chan, who were made to work on Labor Day against Gabriela Dabrowski and Rohan Bopanna.

Murray/Bruno Soares (4) def. Jean-Julien Rojer/Horia Tecau (12)

Rojer and Tecau put on a beatdown, taking out the No. 4 seeds, 6-1, 6-2. They have put together a quietly consistent year with three titles, including a win right before the Open in Winston-Salem. They’re peaking at the right time and shutting out the US Open defending champs should only boost their confidence.

Here’s a look at a few of the matches still to come on Tuesday:

Martina Hingis/Jamie Murray (1) vs. Abigail Spears/Juan Sebastian Cabal

Hingis and Murray just won their first Grand Slam title together at Wimbledon this year. Not to be outdone, Spears and Cabal are this year’s Australian Open champions.

Slam champs vs. Slam champs? That’s the type of match-up you like to see in the quarters of a major.

Bob Bryan/Mike Bryan (5) vs. Julien Benneteau/Edouard Roger-Vasselin

The Bryans got through a tough third-rounder on Monday. The pressure doesn’t let up as they face the former Slam winners who have been building upon their second-round victory over No. 2 seeds Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo.
