Day 1 of our extended doubles coverage during the US Open kicks off Thursday. Come back by tomorrow—and every day of the tournament—for recaps, previews and more.

Remember on Wednesday, when there were dozens upon dozens of singles matches happening due to Tuesday’s rainout?

Well, today, it’s doubles’ turn.

The team competitions got pushed back a day to accommodate the backlog, so things kick off in earnest with 10 courts hosting doubles.

Here’s a look at a few matches that should make for some interesting viewing.

Jamie Murray/Bruno Soares (5) vs. Julian Knowle/Alexander Peya

This match was called out in the US Open preview. All four of the players taking the court have been in a US Open final, with Murray and Soares the defending champs. It’s not an easy first-rounder for anyone.

Wesley Koolhof/Artem Sitak vs. Ivan Dodig/Marcel Granollers (6)

Koolhof and Sitak didn’t start the year playing together, but they’ve found a nice groove since getting together this summer. The Atlanta Open runner-ups face a team that made two finals earlier in the year, but have been apart for a while now. This has upset potential written all over it.

But if the unseeded duo doesn’t pull off the win, they’ll always have their “Carpool Karaoke” moment from this summer.

Steve Johnson/Tommy Paul vs. Fabio Fognini/Simone Bolelli

It’s USA v. ITA in this match-up of unseeded teams that has the potential to be the most exciting doubles match on the docket. The Americans will have all of the fan support against a former Grand Slam-winning team. Bolelli might be the most low-key of the bunch, but there’s no doubt he’ll be into the raucous atmosphere.

Gabriela Dabrowski/Yifan Xu (9) vs. Mirjana Lucic-Baroni/Andrea Petkovic

Teams usually don’t win a big title like Miami and then disappear. However, that seemed to be the case with Dabrowski and Xu for most of the year until the Connecticut Open last week, when they got back in the winners’ circle. Lucic-Baroni and Petkovic are primarily singles players who bring a lot of firepower, which could make things tricky for the No. 9 seeds.
