Kramerbooks & Afterwords, also known as Kramer’s, was founded in 1976 by Bill Kramer, Henry Posner, and David Tenney. Located in the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington, DC, this bookstore, cafe, and bar has served as an area institution, as a large number of influential artists, politicians and writers have been known to frequent the store.

Kramerbooks was one of the first establishments to combine a bookstore with a cafe, which in turn popularized this business model, and influenced many similar businesses nationwide.

In 2016, entrepreneur Steve Salis took over the business to ensure it’s legacy continues on. Salis also owns a successful chain pizza restaurant called &Pizza, which has 25 locations.
