Did you ever get to play on Centre Court? That's a question many pros are asked, and for Billie Jean King the answer is pretty uncommon.

"The very first match I played at Wimbledon was on Centre Court," the 73-year-old said. "...For me personally, the history was overwhelming."

Obviously, King is now an ingrained part of that history. She won the doubles crown at just 17 years of age with her 18-year-old partner, Karen Hantze Susman. Just five years later, King won the first of her six Wimbledon singles crowns.

The American would go on to win 12 Grand Slam singles titles, reach No. 1 and become the greatest pioneer of women's sports in recent history.

While Wimbledon is over this year, and the tour is zoning in on the US Open, let's not forget whose name is on the Flushing Meadows facility, which is better known as the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
