In the midst of his 7-6 (6), 7-6 (7) takedown of Ryan Harrison in the BB&T Open final in Atlanta, John Isner delivered a statement serve.

It was the body shot heard ‘round the block, sent down from on high as Isner proceeded to win his fourth Atlanta title overall. To his credit, Harrison, who appeared to have been pegged on his right pectoral, was lighthearted afterward about the direct hit.

The body serve was reminiscent of Venus Williams’ own torpedo against Johanna Konta in their Wimbledon semifinal last month, a shot that nearly blew through the returner.

Isner’s championship in Georgia re-cemented his position as the top-ranked American man in tennis. He currently stands tall at No. 18, up two spots to leap-frog No. 19 Jack Sock. Harrison, like Isner, jumped two spots in the rankings to No. 40 and could eek out a Top 32 seeding ahead of the US Open if he delivers some more sterling results in the US Open Series.
