On Saturday in Newport, R.I., Andy Roddick was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. The class of 2017 included four-time Grand Slam winner Kim Clijsters, wheelchair champion Monique Kalkman, historian Steve Flink and the late Vic Braden.

Roddick won the 2003 US Open crown, and could have won four more Slams had someone by the name of Roger Federer not stopped him (three times at Wimbledon and once in New York). Despite this trying history, Roddick has nothing but respect for the Swiss, and Federer was the first to text Roddick on his big day in Newport.

"It made my life a lot easier when I stopped trying to compare myself to Roger," Roddick told Baseline. "It's insane... Certainly no one knows more about what Roger is capable on the court but me and a couple of others."

The 34-year-old American retired five years ago, and has since dabbled in business, television commentary and playing on the senior circuit.

"I enjoy broadcasting a lot," Roddick said. "Obviously, two years of Fox was fun, working for the BBC was fun. Hopefully, I'll do more Periscope stuff—I'm not sure. I enjoy talking tennis. I'm not sure that I enjoy having to travel to do it."

Roddick and his wife, actress Brooklyn Decker, have a son named Hank and are expecting a baby girl (which he revealed in his speech on Saturday).

“Brook, I don’t know how you juggle it all,” Roddick said. “I see it every day and it still doesn’t make any sense to me... Hank will someday realize how lucky he is. Our daughter that’s coming will also realize she has the best mother on earth. Simply, thank you for being you.”

He told Baseline he's hesitant to dive too deep into the tennis world these days due to the extensive traveling commitment that would keep him from his growing family and work at home.

"I've been lucky enough to fall into some business opportunities so my days are full—to kind of put that on hold is tough..." Roddick said. "Who knows what the future holds."

He's not one to stay too far from the sport that's given him 32 ATP titles, a No. 1 ranking and now a spot in the Hall of Fame.

"I still enjoy it. You hear some guys they retire and they don't want to see a racket for three years. I never had that phase. I was out hitting balls the next week just because I enjoy it," Roddick said. "I love the innocent parts of tennis. I don't need an audience to watch me play tennis... The ABCs of tennis don't change."
