Fans of grass-court tennis can rejoice. Two of the most action-packed ATP 500-series grass events are in session with most of the best players in the world tuning up for Wimbledon.

The Queen’s Club tournament in London will trot out No. 1 Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka and Milos Raonic, but on Monday Denis Shapovalov warmed things up with a spectacular recovery after slipping on the grass.

It was a crucial point for the qualifier Shapovalov, who eventually triumphed over Great Britain’s Kyle Edmund in three sets. It may have been extra satisfying after being disqualified in Davis Cup action against Edmund in February.

Moving east, Roger Federer looks for his ninth career title in Halle. The Swiss was knocked out by Tommy Haas in his first match in Stuttgart last week, but he hopes to rebound in a bracket that includes Kei Nishikori, Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem.

Thiem was the victor of the day’s most spectacular point even though young German Maximilian Marterer stayed alive with two incredible defensive saves.

As the short and sweet grass season continues, plenty more highlight shots are surely on their way.
