After dropping the first set in Paris on Tuesday, Eugenie Bouchard's first-round win over Risa Ozaki was fairly routine. Sitting down with the Tennis Channel afterward, Bouchard gave insightful views on how she's improving her mental strength.

Last year in Paris, the Canadian provided a memorable quote, saying she had to get her "sh*t together" after an abysmal 2015 season. Though she has not regained her Top 5 form, the 23-year-old picked up momentum with a quarterfinal run in Madrid.

Thrown into the spotlight after an incredible 2014 season—which included a semifinal run at the French Open—Bouchard has been candid about her struggles ever since (most of which have been mental). The world No. 57 is 11-10 so far this season, including six opening round losses.

"I've learned to take everything in stride a little bit: not get too high with the ups and not get too down with the lows. Just keep going. " she said. "Failure is just a reason to find something new, to learn something new. You just have to get back up every time."
