Petra Kvitova is officially back, and the world is excited to see her. She wasn't entirely sure she would compete even when she flew to Paris, but her name in the draw and a press conference confirmed the good news. Kvitova's career was put in jeopardy when an armed home burglary left her with an injured left hand in December.

"I worked very hard behind the scenes," Kvitova said on Friday. "From the beginning I had this hand in a splint for two months, and even then I was practicing every day, always putting the splint away and trying to make this scar softer. So from the second day after surgery I started to work with that, which was kind of easy, just passive work with the fingers. I couldn't move them."

Her friends in the tennis world are thrilled to see her back.

The two-time Wimbledon champion will play her opening match against Julia Boserup on Sunday. Win or lose on court, Kvitova competing again is a victory in itself.

"Not many people believe that I can play tennis again. So I'm happy that I can play," Kvitova said. "I actually already won my biggest fight. I stayed in life and I have all my fingers."
