Murray celebrates his 30th birthday in Rome

The Scot was greeted with birthday cake, well wishes and big news

Andy Murray turned the big 3-0 on Monday, and plenty of gifts came his way. In a mirroring of Serena Williams (accidentally) announcing her baby news on Maria Sharapova's 30th birthday, Roger Federer announced he's not playing the French Open. While it's disappointing news for fans, it certainly gives Murray a greater shot at the crown in Paris.

But first, Murray is hoping to win his first clay-court title of the season in Rome, where he was presented with cake, and well wishes from his colleagues.

Some of the messages stand out—like Novak Djokovic literally pulling out a mandarin orange as a gift, and Grigor Dimitrov jokingly calling Murray an "old fart."

Rome also gifted the world No. 1 a tough challenge for his first round match in the form of Fabio Fognini. Murray is trying to turn around a 16-6 season that has seen him reach just one semifinal since winning Dubai in early March. He is the defending champion in Rome.
