The Mutua Madrid Open is underway with top competitors such as Stan Wawrinka, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal fighting for the fourth ATP Masters 1000 crown of the season. In the top half of the draw, Grigor Dimitrov went toe-to-toe with Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber in the first round and sparks were flying before the first set was done.

Leading 5-4, the Bulgarian was at a slight disadvantage with literal shadows looming over him; great for keeping cool, not so much for seeing the ball. Kohlschreiber tried to pressure him by moving to the net, but it ended up being futile as Dimitrov flicked his wrist for a slick down-the-line, half-court volley.

The world No. 12 would go on to win, 7-6 (7), 6-4.
