Ilie Nastase’s inexcusable actions last week leading up to and during the Fed Cup tie between Romania and Great Britain did not escape the notice of the world’s No. 1 player.

On the same day she posted a heartfelt message on Instagram to her unborn baby, Serena Williams wrote another letter on the social media platform, condemning Nastase both for the comments about her and those directed at the British Fed Cup team.

“It disappoints me to know we live in a society where people like Ilie Nastase can make such racist comments towards myself and unborn child, and sexist comments against my peers,” she wrote.

Nastase’s boorishness was on full display throughout the week. Williams said she would not let such actions deter her from how she chooses to live her life.

“This or anything else will not stop me from pouring love, light and positivity into everything that I do. I will continue to take a lead and stand up for what’s right.”

Well said, Serena.

Instead of shying away from the limelight, Nastase has been responding.

"Why write a news story like this? Just to have a scandal?" Nastase said. "There are many more important things going on."
