Roger Federer is resting from the upcoming clay-court tour, but he still starred alongside world No. 1 Andy Murray in The Match for Africa 3 in Zurich, Switzerland on Monday night. The exhibition match benefited the Roger Federer Foundation.

From pre-match festivities to post-match interviews, the players showed off light-hearted spirits, trick shots and a lot of smiles.

Happy feet from the on-court dancers carried over to the match, but Federer’s two-hop shuffle wasn’t exactly a routine he’s likely to use at the French Open. Not after that serve.

There were still plenty of great Federer shots. How about that high backhand volley, Sir Andy?

At least Murray didn’t lose his head over a Federer tweener:

Or maybe Swiss fans wanted to see a SABR and a tweener in the same point:

During a changeover interview, Murray comically lamented the agony of chasing down a Wimbledon title in 2013 after being reminded “pretty much every day of my life for about 10 years” that a British male had not won it since 1936.

When Federer got to match point in the second set, Murray selected a ball boy to serve and save it. The Scot stood at attention, while Federer focused in, even though he was greeted with a double fault. Thumbs up anyway:

Federer won in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (6), but they both looked like winners bantering during the post-match interview. Murray hopes his elbow is ready for Monte Carlo, while Federer said that his schedule is “not very much” until the French Open.

Despite the time off, Federer is already making plans to play another exhibition against John Isner in Seattle, April 29 in The Match for Africa 4. He has sided with Bill Gates to promote the event.

Let’s just hope that somebody tells Gates to upgrade his racket in time for the big night.
